Poverty has been a global issue that nations’ leaders are trying to reduce by implementing policies. But, it’s also our responsibility to fight poverty and improve people’s lives. We must acknowledge what duties we should perform in order to make the world a better place.

Fighting poverty requires social and environmental responsibilities of individuals that could balance the ecosystem and the economy.

How would the aforementioned duties help the world’s economy? Let’s find out by reading this post!

1. Social Responsibilities

Individuals and businesses have a responsibility to act in the best interests of their society as a whole when it comes to social responsibility.

The primary idea of this theory is to establish policies that foster an ethical balance between getting profit and benefiting the community.

In many companies, social responsibility is an important aspect. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) enables both large and small enterprises to make a beneficial impact.

Imagine yourself going to the supermarket and have to choose between two kinds of soap and these are what is written on the package.

  1. Soap 1 ($3): “%20 of our profit will go into a charity to save the turtles” – decorated with pictures of turtles
  2. Soap 2 ($3): “This soap kills 99.99% of bacterias in 10 seconds”

What soap would you buy?

Well, according to research, most people tend to choose to buy the first one because many customers buy using their ethical compass. They trust and are more willing to support a company if seeing their profit is used to benefit society.

Many other firms even use this approach as a marketing campaign – because people feel the need for the contribution to society as a natural behavior. That is how companies make great profits while still building credibility.

The more socially responsible a firm is, the more consumer support it receives.

People tend to believe that businesses should invest in improving society and seek out solutions that would help them do so. As a result, more and more companies will create values in the community to make a profit. Here are some examples of “values”:

  • Labor policies improvements
  • Charitable
  • Volunteering in the community
  • Socially conscious investments

If more individuals and communities in need receive help, we would succeed in making a great effort to reduce poverty.

2. Environmental Responsibilities

Environmental responsibility refers to our vital responsibility to keep an eye on the environment to ensure that it does not deteriorate.

The effect of fulfilling our environmental responsibilities might not be as obvious as the social duties. Ecological Responsibilities and Poverty has indirect relationships. This responsibility makes us citizens constantly think about the country we live in; they might effectively prevent socio-economic challenges.

For instance, joining a club that promotes social-environmental projects is a great way to meet people who understand and care about the real lives of people who are now harmed by environmental problems.

If you become active in a Vietnamese seasonal flooding crisis, you might as well got involved in helping people affected. It is not how the environment connects with poverty, but how the negative consequences of not protecting the environment take us more time to reduce improvements.

At Project Sprouts, we realize that we can not solve all the problems of poverty in a situation like this. But we can seek to make a difference in the lives of needy children by giving them school supplies and encouraging them to continue their education; we can give them winter coats, boots, and blankets to help them stay warm during the cold winter months.

Project Sprouts would love to have you be a part of our community and help us to help worthy children in North Vietnam. We cannot solve all the world’s problems, but we can do our part to help poor kids grow by giving school supplies, winter coats, boots, and other supplies.
